At Access Timber Flooring, we can install blackbutt timber floorboards and flooring for residential and commercial clients across Perth and WA. Blackbutt is one of the most common species of hardwood commercially available from the coastal forests of New South Wales. Economically, it is one of Australia’s most important hardwoods.

Blackbutt timber grows in the coastal forests of New South Wales from Bega on the south coast up to Maryborough in Queensland. In fact, it is the predominant tree species seen on the drive on the Pacific Highway between Taree and Coffs Harbour. Blackbutt is a koala food tree that’s tall in stature and can grow up to 75 metres in height. The lower trunk of the tree is dramatically darkened after a bushfire, hence the name ‘blackbutt’.

High Quality Timber For Different Applications
A significant commercial species, blackbutt is well regarded by foresters for the high quality of timber, easy regeneration and quick growth. Applications for blackbutt timber include flooring, poles, railway sleepers, building framework, cladding, joinery, lining boards, furniture, woodchipping and decking.

This type of timber has a colour ranging from a golden yellow through to pale browns. The colour range is subtle and is excellent where the colour requirement is light and neutral.

The sapwood of blackbutt is distinctly lighter than the heartwood. More importantly, the sapwood is not susceptible to lyctid borer attack. Blackbutt timber is used in the flooring of Parliament House in Canberra, and is available in a narrow and wide board.
