At Access Timber Flooring, our team of experts can provide and install quality Marri timber floorboards for your Perth home or office. Corymbia calophylla (also known as Eucalyptus calophylla R. Br.) is a bloodwood native to Western Australia. Common names include Marri and Red Gum, due to the Red Gum effusions often found on trunks. Its common name “Marri” is from the Nyoongar word for blood, applying to the gum.

Marri is found on the Swan Coastal Plain and on the Darling Scarp, showing its adaptability to the different environments. It’s usually a large tree that can reach up to 40 metres in height, but can take mallee form on poor sites.

Corymbia calophylla is one of around 80 eucalypts which were transferred in 1995 from the genus Eucalyptus to the newly created genus Corymbia. The species was formerly known as Eucalyptus calophylla, and that name is still preferred by some.

Perfect For Timber Flooring and Fine Furniture
Marri timber is honey-coloured and has numerous faults and gum veins. Consequently, it has poor strength and is not used for construction purposes. Marri is an ideal solution for timber flooring, and more recently the character of the timber is being appreciated and is increasingly used in fine furniture. The light colour of the wood makes it suitable for pulp manufacture and large quantities are now being used for chipping.
